About this Project
Marshall Forestry Solutions recently completed a crucial fire mitigation project spanning approximately five acres for a private landowner. The "before" state of this property was characterized by a densely forested area containing substantial accumulations of downed trees and woody debris, clearly indicating a significant wildfire risk (as evidenced by a three-foot stake marking the depth of the material). This project was a true collaborative effort; MFS worked closely not only with the private landowner to achieve their goals but also with the Routt County Fire Department, who were instrumental in securing vital grant funding for this critical work in the area.
To transform the landscape, our skilled team utilized a combination of specialized equipment and hands-on effort. A CAT 299D3 with a masticator attachment efficiently processed all downed and smaller woody material, while a Bandit 19XPC chipper handled the larger debris. The heavy fuel load has been replaced with a thin layer of chipped material, leaving behind a depth of just 2-4 inches. This outcome not only creates a much more aesthetically appealing environment but, most importantly, results in a significantly more fire-resistant and fire-safe area, providing enhanced protection for the property and surrounding community.
